I think we need to work on both structures and agency. I think that a big part of the reason why the Church wants a global public authority is so that smaller, poorer nations also have a voice in global matters and that global issues can be solved more peaceably with more authority, but as you know, that requires cooperation and a desire for the common good, and not for oneself. Yet capitalism teaches us to pursue our own interests and that is the policy that most dominant nations are pursuing and even forcing on developing nations.

Also, as a side note, the EU has other problems than not recognizing Christianity. They think that can have monetary union without fiscal union which is proving rather difficult as they are now finding.Alex Binderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07081761484559249129noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3574536238757003081.post-1367832809535141422011-10-28T11:12:43.540-05:002011-10-28T11:12:43.540-05:00I have to admit that I am resistant to anything wi...I have to admit that I am resistant to anything with the tag "Global public authority." But instead of writing off the document offhand I decided to really explore my resistance and I have come up with a few thoughts. My first thought is that I am not opposed to any Global public authority after all I follow the Pope, but I am opposed to any Global public authority without Christ. This is the danger I see. That many will take this last document and remove it from the fullness of Catholic teaching in order to reinforce their own bias. But any Catholic teaching has a hidden, invisible Preamble, "Jesus Christ is Lord!" So a central world bank is possible WITH GOD! But often in order to include more people we will try to do it without God. This will accomplish nothing but a rehash of the drama of atheistic humanism of the 20th century. If a world bank doesn't recognize that they get their mission from God then they will forget who the true enemy is. If an institution does not recognize God then they will not recognize the Devil. If they do not blame the Devil for the evil in the world then they will start blaming people. They will blame the unborn, the disabled, the elderly, large families, the poor, the Jews, the Muslims, the Christians, the rich, the elite, the minority, the other, someone besides themselves for the problems in the world. This is the fate of any institution without God as its source. This will be fate of the EU that refused to recognize Christianity as the source of their freedom. This will be the fate of the US if we do not return to God the source of our Republic. *rant off*Fr. Damien Merrinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17821062504905546925noreply@blogger.com
